Resources

These are some general resources that I find helpful for many of my patients and also for my own personal and family health. Please enjoy and feel free to share with others, I hope you find them helpful too!

Recipes

Supercook is an amazing resource for recipes. You can put in the ingredients you’d like to use and get tons of recipes. Plus you can filter by certain diets, meal type and cuisine.

Yummly also allows you to search for recipes by specific sets of ingredients. Plus they have great extra resources like video guided recipes and a meal planner with pantry organizer.

Meal Tracking

My Fitness Pal is an easy to use site that allows you to track your food intake, great for better understanding of calories, macronutrients and other nutrients. I love that you can quickly scan barcodes for adding packaged foods, and you can import whole recipes from websites to make it easy to track a recipe you created. Note that the program works best on a phone or tablet.

Exercise

Fitness Blender is one of my favourite sites for free exercise videos. You can search by exercise type, equipment, difficulty, time, and more. Personally, I find it helpful to play music through another YouTube link at the same time, as their videos are pretty bare bones, but they are effective!

Yoga With Adriene is my favourite yoga channel with hundreds of videos for anything from weight loss and core strength to stress relief and sleep. I also enjoy the variety of durations, because you don’t always have time for a long yoga class, but can still get lots of benefits out of short ones.

Cosmic Kids Yoga is a wonderful resource if you want to exercise with kids (my nephews love it!). There are videos ranging from a few minutes to a full workout, teaching children yoga, meditation and flexibility with fun backgrounds and stories. Enjoyable for adults too!

Meditation

Mindfulness is one of my favourite tools for helping with your health, whether you’re dealing with stress, trying to sleep better, improve your digestion, or just be healthier overall. Calm, Simple Habit and Headspace are three of my favourite apps that have 5-10 minute meditations and are simple and easy to use. Even if you’re skeptical, give this a try, I guarantee it can make a huge impact on your life.

Mental Health Resources

During the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Ontario government is offering a wide variety of free mental health care resources. Check them out, you may find them useful for you or someone you care about. Remember, it’s okay to not be okay, and there are a lot of things you can do to help.
